Nut butters are a great source of calories and variety for your backpacking food bag. I've grown fond of Justin's Natural Nut Butters over the past year after discovering them at my local REI. They are conveniently packaged in 1.15 oz single use packs and contain between 180-200 calories. The individual packets, appropriately called Squeeze Packs, are good because you can knead them before opening to ensure that the nut oil and the nut butter are fully mixed. I like eating them at lunch on a wrap or with crackers. On my next trip, I'm going to be taking 4 different flavors of Justin's: Honey Almond Butter, Classic Almond Butter, Maple Almond Butter and Honey Peanut Butter along with an excellent flatbread-style cracker that Grant Sible at Gossamer Gear just turned me onto, from none other than Doctor Kracker. These flat breads that are the size and thickness of a pop tart and pack about 100 calories each. They are delicious and crunchy and stand up to humidity well after opening. They come in 5 different flavors: Klassic 3-seed, Pumpkin Seed, Seeded Spelt, and Sunflower Cheddar. I like eating them with cheese, nut butters, and veggie spreads.
