- Insider Tip: We recommend pairing your Cook-In-Bags™ with a Cook-In-Cozy™ to help retain heat, reduce fuel usage and result in a hotter meal. Heat loss is three time greater without the Cook-In-Cozy™.
WARNING: Do not submerge bag in boiling water. Bags are approved for pouring boiling water into the bag, over food but not for submerging the bag in boiling water. Please see our Boilable Bags™ if you'd like to submerge your bags in boiling water for an extended period of time.

You can get a good idea of the size and capicity of our Cook-in-Bags™ using the chart below. Volume measurement leaves one inch of 'head space' to allow for sealing.
Bag Size Width x Height x Gusset (Bottom) | Volume | Weight | |
Small Bags | 5" x 8" x 3" | 2 Cups | 8 grams |
Medium Bags | 6" x 9.37" x 3.25" | 3.5 Cups | 10 grams |

We have contacted Ziploc to inquire about the safety of their plastic bags coming into contact with boiling water. The company responded via email with the following information: "Ziploc Bags are not designed and have not been tested for boiling. Both Ziploc® brand Freezer and Ziploc® brand Storage bags have a melting point of 65° C/149° F. The boiling point of water is 101°C/212°F. That said, I can't recommend boiling with any of our bags."
These Cook-in-Bags™ are certified for one time use only.
We have not attempted to use a vacuum sealer with the Cook-in-Bags. If you have done this and have an answer regarding it's performance, please let us know via [email protected].
Yes, we recommend using a heat sealer on the Cook-in-Bags in addition to the zip closure. Although we have had no issues with the zip closure opening on its own, the heat seal ensures there are no accidental leaks. We recommend experimenting with the setting on your heat sealer to identify what heat level works best.

As an older gentleman, these are great for not having to get out of your tent at night, and better than a Gatorade bottle. They're lighter, have a large opening, store flat in your pack, stand up when in use to avoid spills, and last on average 500 to 1000 miles. Be careful handling on cold mornings as the plastic will shatter when cold.

A lot of UL backpackers let their food cook in ziplock bags but the BPA concerns me & frankly even the thicker ones almost melt. These work better. They are thicker, have the flat bottoms so the pouch will stay upright on its own & BPA free!

These bags are absolutely fantastic for when I put together my backpacking meals. They are the perfect size for all my ingredients and are durable enough to be used over and over. Ive been using mine for over two years now and I recommend them to all my backpacking buddies.

Exactly what I needed. Great for not only building my own meals, but used the small ones to divvy up up a two-person meal into 2 single servings. Bags hold up to boiling water, make for a more compact pack, and can be used for items like oatmeal but in an easier to use way. Small is what I needed - thanks for the excellent product and quick shipping!

The bags worked as advertised. I did not bring a long enough spoon and ended up dumping the bag into my canteen cup, defeating the point of the bags. I probably could have bought a smaller size. I think the bags would be perfect if they were rotated 90 degrees and were more like an mre pouch.

I love these, they're ALMOST perfect! Been using them for many years on every backpack trip, they allow me to mix my own dehydrated meals - I honestly don't know what I'd do without them! But I REALLY wish they were wider and shorter, this would make them MUCH more user-friendly. Every size is just too tall which makes it hard to pour hot water into the bag, hard to stir bag contents, and difficult to eat out of the bag even using a long-handled spoon. I always end up cutting several inches off the top of the bag after my food has rehydrated (which is tricky with a hot bag!), just to make it easier to eat out of. PLEASE make them shorter & wider!! But otherwise they're awesome. I'll keep using them anyway - just bought 24 more! Thanks.

Used these on two trips last year for breakfast oatmeal. Loaded up individual bags at home with my oatmeal mix and poured boiling water into them on the trail. Soaked for five minutes or so. No leakage at all, either while dry or during soaking. Buying another round for this summer's trips.

My wife and I enjoyed our meals out of 4 bags over 18's on the JMT well worth the money...

I got an order of these bags from PackitGourmet last month and have had fun trying them out. While pricey, they are a great alternative for freezer bags if one desires a heavy duty version. They are rated for boiling water to be added inside and are food grade plastic. Originally posted on the Trail Cooking & The Outdoors blog. http://blog.trailcooking.com/
