Packit Gourmet makes an insane variety of foods, from cold-water-prep lunches to sharable appetizers (trailside queso, anyone?). It has some inventive dinner options, but we like the Big’Un Burrito with Fajita Chicken because it’s laden with chicken, black beans, and rice and cooks in the bag. Bring your own tortillas and you’ve got a burrito to go. There’s even a sachet of Cholula hot sauce in the package.

— Outside Online: The 5 Lightest, Tastiest Backpacking Meals You Can Buy, July 2018

This was one of the first entrees we tested on our annual Editors' Choice trip, and it set the bar - high. Stuffed with black beans, brown rice, veggies and cheese, "the Big'un is filling and tastes like something you'd make fresh at home," one tester says.

frequently asked questions

Why is a Cook–in–Cozy™ recommended?

We recommend that all of our hot meals spend time "steep-cooking" while snuggled in a Cook-in-Cozy. We find this method promotes a more consistent temperature and steady cook time for Cook-in-Bag preparation; and results in a better serving temperature for your meal. When not in use, our Cook-in-Cozy folds away nicely in your pack for storage and weighs in at only 1.4oz.

This was my first time trying this company. This is now my new favorite meal hands down. I brought tortillas and my favorite taco sauce; and everyone at camp was thoroughly impressed with the taste. I divided the package contents into two ziploc bags to eat over two days. I added a little cumin, pepper and seasoning salt to give it a taco flavor. It was perfect for the amount of food I eat. I made 4 decent size tacos. This will be my go to backpacking meal.

I bought this to see how I liked it before heading out on the trail and all I can say is “Wow”. This is about as of a high quality meal you can get for backpacking. The added cholula packet is also a great touch. They even included a handwritten note on the receipt.

I can’t get over how good this meal is. Being born and raised in South-Central Texas, I know what good Tex-Mex food is. This Big’un Burrito is great. Unbeknownst to me I was taking a little bit of San Antonio into the central mountains Of Idaho. I thoroughly enjoyed this meal. Filling and very tasty! Of course I will be taking this along on all of my future backpacking trips. Great job Packit family...thank you and keep up the great work!

Another vote for this tasty, filling meal. On a recent trip to Emigrant Wilderness I substituted the Big’un Burrito meal for our traditional burrito night and it was enthusiastically received by all seven backpackers! You can definitely fill two tortillas with a single bag. Melting a bit of shredded cheese on the tortillas first took this up a notch higher. If you don’t have the cook in cozy you can use a hard foam sleep pad to keep em hot while they rehydrate. Also, no refried bean nightmare clean up!! Keeper.

An Incredible Meal and an Incredible Company I cannot say enough good things about Pack-It-Gourmet--and I never leave positive reviews. These fajitas were possibly the most delicious trail meals I've ever had. Not only that, I mentioned in my order that I was leaving soon for a trip, and they emailed me right back--saying they'd process the order ASAP. Sure enough, the order was shipped within an hour. Buy it! You won't be disappointed
