This one got rave reviews from our taste testers — one guy said, “Tastes like real food!” I can personally say it’s one of the best prepackaged trail meals I’ve tried. With roasted chicken and dumplings in a thick, savory gravy, it reminded me of something Grandma might make.

Craving comfort food on a chilly evening? Dig into this prep-in-the-bag meal, loaded with melt-in-your-mouth dumplings and crunchy cornbread croutons. The broth blends smoky mushrooms with sweet carrots and peas, and it's chockablock with bits of tender chicken.

We recommend that all of our hot meals spend time "steep-cooking™" while snuggled in a Cook-in-Cozy™. We find this method promotes a more consistent temperature and steady cook time for Cook-in-Bag™ preparation; and results in a better serving temperature for your meal. When not in use, our Cook-in-Cozy™ folds away nicely in your pack for storage and weighs in at only 1.4oz.

4 Stars I was a little concerned at the 10 minute mark that this was looking more like a thin brothed soup, but at the 20 minute mark (in my cozy, of course) it was thick and beautiful. I started hyper-salivating like Pavlov's dog immediately upon smelling it after the "grand opening". Wonderful and hearty. Comparable to a premium canned soup, yet better. Large portion fed three of us for lunch. As with all backpacking food, allow it to rehydrate for a minimum of 20 minutes (longer if you can stand it) in a cozy so it stays HOT and it'll turn out just right.

Very good taste and texture. Only complaint was when made with amount of water on directions it made a soupier chicken and dumplings than I'm accustomed to. If/when I order again (and it's good enough to order more), will try reducing water by a 1/2 cup or so and see if that gives the consistency I like.

Very Good if a little thin, I will add less water next time. I put mine in with some minute rice and it made a very filling meal.

Tasty. Unlike many Pack it Gourmet meals, which I find to be far too spicey, this was just right. It did not taste "rehydrated" at all.
-
This is GOOD. One of my favorite packit gourmet meals so far. As others said, I would liken it to chicken noodle soup though, not dumplings. Rivals anything out of a can.

What can I say? I love this - perfect serving size, great flavor. I usually cobble up my own dishes but for this I will splurge.

very good and filling, will order this again.

Now this was a dish that came out very well. All the flavors came together for a dish that tasted great and with little hint that it my have been a freeze dried backpacking meal.

This is what we would call in the South "Chicken and Pastry" or " Chicken and Slicks" The dumpling is more like a super noodle than a biscuit like dumpling that others would be expecting. All good, just different. This is one of my first Packit Gourmet choices for my post Thanksgiving AT trip in VA.
