What is Gluten Conscious?

Gluten Conscious is a term we use to describe a product that is prepared with gluten free ingredients; however, it is not prepared in a gluten-free environment. While we are careful to avoid cross-contamination, it is possible that trace amounts of gluten may be present due to the use of gluten in our facility.
Why is a Cook–in–Cozy™ recommended?

We recommend that all of our hot meals spend time "steep-cooking" while snuggled in a Cook-in-Cozy. We find this method promotes a more consistent temperature and steady cook time for Cook-in-Bag preparation; and results in a better serving temperature for your meal. When not in use, our Cook-in-Cozy folds away nicely in your pack for storage and weighs in at only 1.4oz.

An excellent blend of textures and flavors make this a Most Enjoyable backpacking meal. I ate the first one at home so I would know what I might want to bring to "fortify" or flavor it up. Nothing was needed. This is an excellent breakfast, or can be split with a friend to make an excellent breakfast side if you want to share for variety.

I ordered this awhile back and the name sounded like a dinner. While eating it, I thought to myself, "This is just sausage & grits that I'd eat for breakfast". It was really good, I made it a bit thin unintentionally. I didn't taste cheese or spices, just sausage & grits. That said, it was very good and I'll definitely order again. Perfect quantity, sausage was plump & soft and it warmed my belly. Might add more cheese next time. I didn't find it salty at all (as another reviewer mentioned).

I decided to eat this for breakfast. Because of its ease of preparation I used a simple alcohol stove and and a small titanium pot. This dish fits in really well with my style of easy backpacking cooking. Heat some water, pour over the concoction, let sit and eat. Preparation: Could not be easier. I used the Cook-In-Bag method. I simply boiled some water, added the Polenta mix to the larger outer bag, poured in the hot water, sealed it shut, slipped the bag inside an insulated coozy and waited 10 minutes. I then just ate the polenta right out of the bag with a long handled spoon. The best part was no dirty dishes to deal with. Taste: Very good and filling. The sausage bits, Parmesan cheesy and garlic really made this a flavorful meal. Originally posted on BackpackGearTest http://www.backpackgeartest.org

I ate this for dinner in camp. Mine was still soupy after 5 min, so I kneaded it and after 10 min it was still a bit thin. It was very tasty though and I would use a little less water next time. The sausage bits had a great texture and the dish was very comforting on a chilly night. This was my first PG dish, and I look forward to tasting the others I bought (corn pudding & grits souffle)

Easy, tasty, extra compact and light. Well worth becoming a breakfast staple. Next time I would add less water to start as it was very soupy, and add more as needed. The sausage was a must. I think it would have been quite bland without. I was still a bit hungry after but it was a cold night and that always stirs the apatite. In better weather I think it would have been plenty.

Stove used: alcohol stove My breakfast of choice on the trail has long been oatmeal. It sticks with me, is easy to cook, and is even easier to carry. On a long 9 mile ( km) hike along the LoneStar Trail, I stopped and cooked up the Creamy Italian Polenta with Sausage for breakfast. It was pretty easy and all I had to do was heat water with my alcohol stove, bring the water to a boil, then mix in the polenta and sausage. When it had cooked for a few minutes I pulled the polenta off the heat, added some parmesan cheese, and waited for things to cool off. The wait was more than worth it. I was starving after hiking for about two miles ( km) and the Polenta was tasty. It had a great texture and most importantly it filled me up. It was just enough for a hot breakfast or lunch, but not enough for a dinner. While I am not a grits fan, this polenta was pretty close to what I consider grits and I would eat it again. In fact, I am pretty sure that I have found something to alternate with my oatmeal while planning trail breakfasts.

Originally posted on BackpackGearTest http://www.backpackgeartest.org
