Texas State Fair Chili

ranch chili with beef, red beans & smoked peppers, corn chips bits & cheddar-jack cheese

Chili is the classic cookin' under the stars dish — and our Texas State Fair version takes it over the top!

This hearty chili is chock full of lean ground beef, red & kidney beans, ripe red tomatoes, onions and peppers — served up with corn chip bits and cheddar-jack cheese. Add a complimentary splash of Texas Pete hot sauce if you like your chili spicy!

It ranks supreme as the fan favorite and most popular meal!

UPDATE for long-time buyers of our Texas State Fair Chili - the corn chips & cheese are now mixed directly into our chili (rather than packaged separately) resulting in less micro-trash at camp!

What I love about this meal so much other than the chili is just fantastic, is that it comes with some toppings, so you get some corn chips, some sprinkle cheese and some TX Pete Hot Sauce.

It really is nice just to have so much flavor on trail, and then to be able to add those toppings and stuff … I think this one is the closest meal I’ve had to like a real meal in town, but while backpacking.

— Homemade Wanderlust: My 5 Favorite Backpacking Meals, YouTube Video, January 2019

The bane of some camping food: lack of texture. The bane of most: lack of flavor. This stewy meal ups the ante on both. The base is a meaty, tomato-based broth packed with as much flavor as the Lone Star State itself. But the proverbial icing on the cake? Included toppings of crushed Frito-style corn chips, shredded cheese and a packet of Texas Pete Hot Sauce that will warm your insides on a cold night.

frequently asked questions

What is Gluten Conscious?

Gluten Conscious is a term we use to describe a product that is prepared with gluten free ingredients; however, it is not prepared in a gluten-free environment. While we are careful to avoid cross-contamination, it is possible that trace amounts of gluten may be present due to the use of gluten in our facility.
Why is a Cook–in–Cozy™ recommended?

We recommend that all of our hot meals spend time "steep-cooking" while snuggled in a Cook-in-Cozy. We find this method promotes a more consistent temperature and steady cook time for Cook-in-Bag preparation; and results in a better serving temperature for your meal. When not in use, our Cook-in-Cozy folds away nicely in your pack for storage and weighs in at only 1.4oz.

It’s very good, probably your best product. However, something called “Texas State Fair Chili” should not have beans in it, as there are traditionally no beans in Texas chili.

This Chili is so close to fresh the difference is negligible. I was afraid to write a review for fear thousand of buyers will cause the product to go out of stock. Here's hoping PackitGourmet is not overwhelmed with orders. Compliments to the Chef is an understatement for a freeze dried product :)

Loaded with beans, veges, and meat. Mildly spiced, which fits my taste on the trail. Best trail chili.

It’s very good, probably your best product. However, something called “Texas State Fair Chili” should not have beans in it, as there are traditionally no beans in Texas chili.

I'm a commercial Fisherman out of Ventura California. I use my Jetboil to make this Chilli in minutes. No mess to clean up. It's simply Damn Good Chilli! Don't tell my wife or I'll be having for dinner at home... all the time.

This Chili is so close to fresh the difference is negligible. I was afraid to write a review for fear thousand of buyers will cause the product to go out of stock. Here's hoping PackitGourmet is not overwhelmed with orders. Compliments to the Chef is an understatement for a freeze dried product :)

Just placed my 3rd order for this chilli. It's a new tradition on our hiking and rafting trips to have chilli and margaritas! We are hooked :)
