frequently asked questions

Why does the Southwest Corn & Black Bean Salad require 45 minutes for rehydration?

If using cool water, rehydrating legumes (such as black beans) can take quite a long time! We recommend adding your water to the dish in the morning for a tasty lunch down the trail. Or, you can use hot water and reduce your wait time to about 15 minutes.
How much food does this yield? I'm going to split it in half and I want to make sure my container it rehydrates in is big enough.

The Southwest Corn & Black Bean Salad rehydrates to make a 12 ounce serving.

This was surprisingly delicious! My first Packit Gourmet meal exceeded my expectations. I tried the cold soak which should be thought of in advance since it takes about 45 minutes- but so very worth it. Thank you!

There used to be a brand that made a similar cold preparation, bean salad. They discontinued. I have been bummed for 5 years now. Thank you Packit Gourmet for resurrecting this delightful meal in the summer desert, and added Cholula sauce!

My human loves this! She used to enjoy a cold bean salad from a well known company, but they quit making it! Ah, the sorrow. Now she found this one and it even comes with Cholula sauce! These cold preps are great for desert hiking in the summer when you want some filling food, but don't want it to be hot. Now, maybe Packit Gourmet will create the cold pasta salad she used to enjoy from that same company. Hint hint!

Tried it for the first time on my thru-hike of the Centennial Trail, SD. Put the water in while cleaning up after lunch. I added all of the other elements 5 hours or so later during a short break. So fast, so convenient, so tasty! Best pre-packaged meal I ever had on the trail. Couldn't think of adding anything to it. Salty chips , sour malt vinegar, spicy hot sauce and sweetness from the corn. Crazy complex flavor profile and cold soaked to beat the 90+ degree heat. I'm buying more.

Hint hint!

Saved this meal for high camp on Denali. It was my happiest meal ever, after gnawing on frozen bars and cold oatmeal for 2 weeks. Flavor was awesome!

Easily one of my favorite backcountry meals. Hearty, delicious and perfect for those times when you don't want to bother with the Jet Boil.

This and the 3 Bean Salad are awesome. Really like cold soak abilities to enjoy lunch on the go. Used this and mixed with some of the chicken salad products on recent High Sierra Trail hike.

I'm buying more.

    frequently asked questions

Why does the Southwest Corn & Black Bean Salad require 45 minutes for rehydration?

If using cool water, rehydrating legumes (such as black beans) can take quite a long time! We recommend adding your water to the dish in the morning for a tasty lunch down the trail. Or, you can use hot water and reduce your wait time to about 15 minutes.
How much food does this yield? I'm going to split it in half and I want to make sure my container it rehydrates in is big enough.

The Southwest Corn & Black Bean Salad rehydrates to make a 12 ounce serving.
