frequently asked questions

Why does the Southwest Corn & Black Bean Salad require a full hour for rehydration?

If using cool water, rehydrating legumes (such as black beans) can take quite a long time! We recommend adding your water to the dish in the morning for a tasty lunch down the trail. Or, you can use hot water and reduce your wait time to about 20 minutes.
How much food does this yield? I'm going to split it in half and I want to make sure my container it rehydrates in is big enough.

The Southwest Corn & Black Bean Salad rehydrates to make a 12 ounce serving.

Saved this meal for high camp on Denali. It was my happiest meal ever, after gnawing on frozen bars and cold oatmeal for 2 weeks. Flavor was awesome!

Tried it for the first time on my thru-hike of the Centennial Trail, SD. Put the water in while cleaning up after lunch. I added all of the other elements 5 hours or so later during a short break. So fast, so convenient, so tasty! Best pre-packaged meal I ever had on the trail. Couldn't think of adding anything to it. Salty chips , sour malt vinegar, spicy hot sauce and sweetness from the corn. Crazy complex flavor profile and cold soaked to beat the 90+ degree heat. I'm buying more.

We brought 6 packs of this for lunches in the BWCA. It was so easy to add cold water in the morning, tuck it into a backpack, and have lunch ready and waiting for us to eat when we were hungry. Tasty and filling! I will definitely get more of this the next time the need arises.

Definitely read this review!! I started out with Good to Go meals and yuck, all three of their most popular ones went in the trash. Seriously, do not waste your time with them. Then I moved to Heather’s choice breakfasts. I think its a personal taste thing, I do not like hot coconut, it was hard for me to get past. So if that’s you, move past their breakfast meals. Then we tried Mountain house chicken and rice and their spaghetti with meat sauce. It was palatable and decent. I could doctor it up ok with some add ons. Well, today my packit gourmet meals came in and we tried the chicken and dumplings, the chili, the tortilla soup and the black bean and corn salad. I almost had a tear come down my cheek, these meals were pretty dang delicious. If you are having doubts about ordering, don’t. Just do it. The extras are what make these meals over the top. Love all the toppings and condiments and love that I can add my own level of spice by adding just a little bit of hot sauce or not. Some of the other brands are so spicy, you can’t taste anything but spice...Good to Go, I’m looking at you. Packit Gourmet, keep it up, your meals will be filling our pack on the Tahoe Rim Trail. Thanks a bunch!

Packit Gourmet, keep it up, your meals will be filling our pack on the Tahoe Rim Trail. frequently asked questions
