frequently asked questions

Why does the Southwest Corn & Black Bean Salad require 45 minutes for rehydration?

If using cool water, rehydrating legumes (such as black beans) can take quite a long time! We recommend adding your water to the dish in the morning for a tasty lunch down the trail. Or, you can use hot water and reduce your wait time to about 15 minutes.
How much food does this yield? I'm going to split it in half and I want to make sure my container it rehydrates in is big enough.

The Southwest Corn & Black Bean Salad rehydrates to make a 12 ounce serving.

We brought 6 packs of this for lunches in the BWCA. It was so easy to add cold water in the morning, tuck it into a backpack, and have lunch ready and waiting for us to eat when we were hungry. Tasty and filling! I will definitely get more of this the next time the need arises.

Flavor is 4 forks. I did not anticipate not being able to wait the 90+ minutes to enjoy it. Make sure you get this ready BEFORE you're hungry. It's a long, lonely wait while your buddies are chowing down on thier food.

Definitely read this review!! I started out with Good to Go meals and yuck, all three of their most popular ones went in the trash. Seriously, do not waste your time with them. Then I moved to Heather’s choice breakfasts. I think its a personal taste thing, I do not like hot coconut, it was hard for me to get past. So if that’s you, move past their breakfast meals. Then we tried Mountain house chicken and rice and their spaghetti with meat sauce. It was palatable and decent. I could doctor it up ok with some add ons. Well, today my packit gourmet meals came in and we tried the chicken and dumplings, the chili, the tortilla soup and the black bean and corn salad. I almost had a tear come down my cheek, these meals were pretty dang delicious. If you are having doubts about ordering, don’t. Just do it. The extras are what make these meals over the top. Love all the toppings and condiments and love that I can add my own level of spice by adding just a little bit of hot sauce or not. Some of the other brands are so spicy, you can’t taste anything but spice...Good to Go, I’m looking at you. Packit Gourmet, keep it up, your meals will be filling our pack on the Tahoe Rim Trail. Thanks a bunch!

My favorite Packit Gourmet meal, hands down. Tastes great, is vegan (which is important for several members of the family) and is one of the easiest to make - you truly can just add water mid-morning or afternoon and keep hiking. Take it out at lunch or dinner for a delicious meal! Add tortillas or chips for our favorite trail food!

    frequently asked questions

This is REALLY good! It's listed as a lunch, but I could see myself being very content using this as a no-cook dinner option.

This is the best meal I've ever eaten on the trail, and pretty much figures into every backpack trip. A big meal for one, or can be stuffed into tortillas for two. You can't go wrong. And a nice big dose of protein to boot. Try it... you won't be sorry.
